The Gabriel
Over the years there
has been emails, telephone calls asking, talking and praying for young women
who are pregnant with nowhere to turn. At the same time we are hearing flowering
speeches, homilies, sermons etc., about social justice but little talk about
the holocaust going on beneath the surface of our daily activities. There
is a holocaust of gigantic proportion here in Canada and the world and the
silence is hurting.
Sad to say the mailbox is now void of such concerns.

It has been said that the pro-life mindset has to expand to involve in the caring need for pregnant women beyond what is now being provided.
As a person who
has been involved for nearly two decades dealing with the abortion issue on
a daily basis, and seeing it mired in a litany of other life and family issues,
the support for a pregnancy the mom and child seems to be forgotten. It is
said that many recognize the unborn child as a child a person of God's handy
work. Even by children if not recognized by the learned
lawyers of the Supreme Court of Canada, many politicians and academics.
Here's where Gabriel
comes to rescue. Gabriel is a project
started in Texas, as a Catholic parish
based initiative which quickly expanded to include other denominations
that recognized the need to reach out and help women who face unplanned pregnancies
or who are pregnant and need assistance. The church community provides intervention
as s Good Samaritan, the mom receives love, care and spiritual, material and
emotional support she needs throughout her pregnancy.
The pregnant woman is left to make her decisions with the companionship
of “An Angel”. Angel training
is offered and is a must for the project to be successful. The church community
provides this service as an outreach mission to make a bold statement that
they too recognize life in the womb, that is "the sanctity of human life".
...The Gabriel Project
is the manifestation of God's love to women experiencing pregnancy that need
spirtiual, emotional, material or friendship support..
This love is a witness of the infinite and healing love of God.
The Gabriel project is the work of the Holy Spirit: and through pastoral
care, evangelize and educates.
The project has gone from being just a Catholic initiative to other church communities across the US.
The project with
church community support, first solicit volunteers to work on the project. Some start by providing a Gabriel Closet, a
place that maternity clothes can be repaired washed and provided free, along
with items for the baby's arrival. The
ministry can grow into providing friendship and AN ANGEL to walk the walk
with the mother through her pregnancy. The
Angel is a person of prayer, and seeks only to pray and to help and to be
a person of service.
This is not
a counseling service of any sort, but one of listening and helping. It is not an emergency service but one of service.
The Gabriel Project, is a Respect Life outreach to women who choose to keep
their babies rather than aborting them.
This church-based ministry
is specifically designed to work in conjunction with existing crisis
pregnancy centers, social services, national hotlines and other alternatives
to abortion.
The Charism:
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel
was sent from God to a town of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed
to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
Upon arriving, the angel said to her: "Rejoice, O highly favored
daughter! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women." She
was deeply troubled by his words, and wondered what his greeting meant.
The angel went on to say to her: "Do not fear, Mary, You have
found favor with God. You shall conceive and bear a son and give
him the name Jesus. Great will be his dignity and he will be called son
of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father.
He will rule over the house of Jacob forever and his reign will be without
end." Mary said to the angel.
There is interest shown to begin chapters
and/or society of Gabriel here in Nova Scotia. Only one community thus far has stepped up to the task.
Please dear friends pray for this inspired ministry amongst our Christian
brethren that we may be able to save mothers and children from the horrors
of abortion.
Please give it some thought and pray for
any initiatives for this project. There
will be nay sayers for sure for it is easier to find a reason not to act
than it is to act. Trusting in
the Lord for he will provide for his children.
With Much Thanks

Training can be
arranged once a church community and/or parish decides that this project is
something they can manage and wish to provide.
