1. 40 Days For Life & 123 Babies Saved So Far!Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
October 5, 2009 (40DaysforLife.com) – Judging from the hundreds of e-mail messages I get daily, you like to hear stories about babies saved from abortion, and you like to see pictures of 40 Days for Life in action. So, today I bring you both!
Kristina and Michele in Syracuse, New York were praying in front of Planned Parenthood when two young women stopped to talk. One of the young women said she was pregnant and going to Planned Parenthood for an abortion.
Instead, she was encouraged to visit a pro-life pregnancy resource center where she was offered a free ultrasound. "Long story short," said Kristina, "the girl decided against having the abortion. Praise the Lord!"
"To all those who are there with us in spirit and praying at home, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts," Michele added. "It is because of your prayers and God's love and mercy that this young woman's baby was saved."
Sandy in Toms River, New Jersey reported that a young couple drove into the abortion center parking lot. The woman got out and walked towards the clinic; the man stayed in the car.
A counselor asked if the young woman needed any help. She told the counselor she was pregnant and couldn't take care of another baby because she already had a young child. The woman went back to the car, looked at the pro-life literature she was given, and then entered the building.
An hour later, she left the clinic and went back to the sidewalk to tell the counselor she had decided to keep the baby.
"I am convinced that all the prayers and sacrifices being offered to God since the start of the campaign had a part in this miracle," Sandy said. "In a spectacular display of religious unity in our belief in the sanctity of life, a group of women from the Pentecostal Church of Grace and Peace prayed at the front of the clinic while a group of Catholic women prayed by the entrance. This is what 40 Days for Life is all about!"
Melissa in Charlotte, North Carolina found out firsthand that because of its widespread availability, abortion can even tempt people of faith. At the 40 Days for Life vigil, she met a woman who was at the clinic to schedule an abortion.
"She broke down crying and revealed that she was a Christian, who had fallen into sin," Melissa said. The child's father, a married leader in her church, was pressuring her to have an abortion. "She knew it was wrong, but she didn't know what to do." She had spoken to her pastor, but had not received any definitive counsel.
Still, it was obvious the woman knew the truth; her car had a "let God have his way" sticker and the bible was sitting on the passenger seat. "We hugged her and listened to her as she poured her heart out and wept on our shoulder. After baring her soul," Melissa said, "she chose life!"
Melissa asks for your prayers for this woman. "She has a very difficult road ahead and she is obviously going to be ostracized by those closest to her for making the decision to carry this child to term."
Those are just a few of the stories of at least 123 lives saved so far by your prayers and participation in this 40 Days for Life.

2. Abortion Event Censured By Students Society Of McGill University October 5, 2009

Abortion Event Censured by Students’ Society of McGill University Student Union Threatens Club with Defunding for Hosting Event
A controversial pro-life presentation will continue tomorrow at McGill University, despite the student union’s attempt to censor it.
The Students Society of McGill University (SSMU) voted 25-2-2 to censure an event entitled "Echoes of the Holocaust" at their meeting last Thursday, October 1st. The event, scheduled for tomorrow, October 6th, has been organized by Choose Life, a pro-life club on campus, and will carry on as planned.
The presentation, hosted by a university-sanctioned club, Choose Life, is to be given by Jose Ruba of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. His presentation, titled, "Echoes of the Holocaust" outlines how societies have justified and perpetuated great atrocities, including the Holocaust and abortion.
Natalie Fohl, president of Choose Life says, "The Holocaust was a major affront to the dignity of the human person, and resulted in a horrific loss of life. Choose Life, through this event, fully recognizes that reality. Moreover, we recognize that abortion is also an affront to the dignity of the human person, and that the denial of personhood to the unborn is unjust and arbitrary."
At the meeting, SSMU Councilors accused Ruba of comparing women who have had abortions to Nazis and therefore violating their Constitution and Equity Policy. The speaker has clearly stated, however, that he does not make this comparison.
Though the students’ society cannot directly stop the event, they have promised to punish the club for hosting the presentation. The motion passed was amended to include a resolution that by continuing with the event despite the censure, Choose Life will be automatically ineligible for funding from the SSMU for the remainder of its existence.
Ruba has given this talk at a variety of campuses including McMaster University, University of New Brunswick Saint John, St. Francis Xavier University and University of Prince Edward Island. When students tried to shut down the same lecture at St. Mary’s University in February 2009, it only resulted in the university being subject to embarrassment in the media for not upholding freedom of speech.

4. Bill C-384 First Hour Of Debate On Euthanasia And Assisted Suicide October 6, 2009
We need to inundate Members of Parliament with letters opposing Bill C-384.
On October 2, Bill C-384, the private members bill to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide received its first hour of debate. C-384 was introduced on May 13 by Bloc Québécois MP Francine Lalonde. Since then many groups and individuals have helped the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition defeat C-384 by sending Stop Bill C-384 postcards, writing hand-written letters, or meeting with their Member of Parliament (MP). We now need to inundate MPs with letters opposing Bill C-384.
The first-hour of debate had 8 speeches on C-384 with 2 in favour – Francine Lalonde (BQ), Serge Cardin – (BQ) and 6 opposed – David Anderson (CPC), John McKay (Lib), Jacques Gourde (CPC), Marlene Jennings (Lib), Joe Comartin (NDP), Paul Szabo – (Lib).
This confirmed the responses from MPs that we were receiving from our supporters. It is clear MPs oppose C-384 based on 3 different positions.
The first position is the MP who is totally opposed to euthanasia and assisted suicide. Many MPs totally oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide, but they do not represent a majority in parliament.
The second position is the MP who believes that Canada needs to improve the quality and availability of end-of-life care/palliative care before it considers legalizing euthanasia and assisted suicide. There are a significant number of MPs who hold this position. The question is: how many of these MPs would support euthanasia and/or assisted suicide if Canada significantly improved end-of-life care?The third position is the MP who opposes C-384 but supports euthanasia and/or assisted suicide. These MPs consider C-384 to be so flawed that they refuse to support it. There are not many MPs in this category.
We must continue to build opposition to C-384 by focusing on why euthanasia and assisted suicide is always wrong. We must convince enough MPs who oppose C-384 based on a the need to improve end-of-life care first – to opposing euthanasia and assisted suicide because it is wrong and threatens the lives of vulnerable Canadians.
Just because we appear to be winning does not give us the right to relax but rather it should give us the energy to push forward for a complete victory. *This can only be done with your help*. We need to continue the postcard campaign that has resulted in more than 100,000 postcards being distributed from our office. We also urge you – our supporters – to send hand written letters or to visit your MP. We may be at the turning point on these issues.
These are a few key points concerning C-384:
1. Definitions: What is Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide?
Euthanasia is when one person is directly and intentionally causes the death of another person for reasons related to suffering. It is important to note that legalizing euthanasia will give physicians the right to directly and intentionally cause your death. Euthanasia is usually done by a lethal injection.
Assisted Suicide is when one person is directly and intentionally involved with knowingly causing the death of another person. Many people confuse assisted suicide with suicide but the circumstance is different. Suicide is when a person kills oneself whereby assisted suicide is when another person is directly and intentionally involved with causing your death.
2. Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide will disproportionately affect vulnerable persons.
The Miriam-Webster dictionary defines vulnerable as: "capable of being physically or emotionally wounded" When is a person vulnerable? Human experience and social history tells us that people become more vulnerable when they are in some way devalued as persons or when they become highly dependent on others for their basic needs.
People with disabilities will often speak about their life experiences in relation to how they were treated when they were in vulnerable or dependent situations. The reality is that social systems are needed to protect people when they are vulnerable and offering death to a person who already has been made to feel like a burden on others, or offering death to a person who is experiencing uncontrolled pain, is more likely to result in a decision of death rather than demanding the necessary care that should be expected for a person in need.
3. Don’t the safeguards in C-384 protect the vulnerable?
The safeguards in bill C-384 are written in double-speak meaning that they sound nice but do not actually provide protection.
C-384 allows euthanasia and assisted suicide for people who are not terminally ill but suffering chronic physical or mental pain. People suffering from mental pain would often be deemed incompetent to make significant life decisions but C-384 opens the door to them dying by lethal injection (euthanasia).
C-384 also allows euthanasia and assisted suicide for people who have expressly refused appropriate treatments that are available. This means that the person with mental pain could die by a lethal injection (euthanasia) even though effective treatment is available to alleviate them of their distress.
C-384 bases competency on whether a person "appears to be lucid." Therefore the person who is experiencing mental pain can die by lethal injection (euthanasia) when they "appear to be lucid."
C-384 is not limited to terminally ill people but it also doesn’t define the term terminal illness. Therefore a person would be able to die by lethal injection (euthanasia) soon after learning of a terminal diagnosis. The fact is that most people are experience a short-term shock when they learn of a terminal diagnosis but soon after come to accept that their remaining life is not too bad or decide that they have unfinished business. My step-father died 28 months after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. His quality of life was excellent during most of that period.C-384 will also allow euthanasia tourism, euthanasia clinics, and when a physician deems that a person does not qualify for euthanasia, the bill does not stop doctor shopping. In Oregon the euthanasia lobby group Compassion & Choices facilitated 53 of 60 assisted suicide deaths by referring the person to a physician who supports assisted suicide or by counseling them in the process.
We are opposed to C-384 not only because it is written in a permissive manner but primarily because it would allow the direct and intentional killing of the most vulnerable members of society.
We will defeat C-384, but we also need to stop the movement to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada. Ottawa, ON : Today, Bill C-268, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (minimum sentence for offences involving trafficking of persons under the age of eighteen years), passed at Third Reading. Bill C-268 will now go to the Senate for consideration.
“Today’s support for Bill C-268 reveals a clear indication that the majority of Members of Parliament understand the necessity of ensuring the traffickers of minors receive sentences that reflect the severity of this grave offence,” said MP Joy Smith. “Traffickers need to know that we will not accept the exploitation and sale of our children and any attempts to do so will be met with stiff consequences.”
The Bloc Quebecois voted against C-268, continuing their opposition to Bill C-268 and citing their concerns with the definition of exploitation.
“The Bloc’s opposition to this Bill is unacceptable,” said MP Joy Smith. “It is merely an attempt to disguise their dislike of mandatory minimums. The definition of exploitation for human trafficking, as defined in 279.04 of the Criminal Code, was vetted by Parliament in 2005 and supported by all MPs. This definition of exploitation has been modeled off the UN’s definition of human trafficking and is used by law enforcement across Canada to identify human trafficking cases.”
Mrs. Smith has received strong support from colleagues in each party. The Hon. Helena Guergis spoke yesterday in support of Bill C-268 during the final hour of debate.
“As Minister of State for Women, I have offered my strong support for this Bill. Too often, it is women and girls who are the victims of human trafficking. That is why along with MP Joy Smith, our government provided funds to Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs to combat this very issue. Criminals that perpetrate themselves on children by forcing them into drugs, the sex trade and other criminal acts, deserve sentences that reflect their heinous crimes. Bill C-268 will guarantee just that!”
Since introducing Bill C-268, Mrs. Smith has presented petitions containing over 14000 signatures from Canadians who are demanding that the penalties to child traffickers fully reflect the gravity of the crime. Many organizations have also lent their support for this legislation, representing stakeholders such as law enforcement, victim’s services, NGO’s, and First Nations Representatives.
“Canada has just taken a significant step in the right direction,” said Naomi Baker, founder of Canada Fights Human Trafficking (CFHT). “Bill C-268 is now in the Senate, and in the right hands. I have confidence that our Senate will see the delicate urgent necessity of passing Bill C-268 as swiftly as possible. It is imperative that we give the world confidence that Canada is now moving in the right direction when it comes to combating human trafficking. That Canada is serious about protecting our next generation.”
“As a former victim of trafficking and who now works with other trafficked victims it is terrifying to tell a victim that there is no way of guaranteeing their trafficker will remain in jail for a long time,” said Timea Nagy. “Without Bill C-268, and Mrs. Smith’s dedication to this issue, victims would have no confidence in coming forward and testifying.”

There, Dr. Diane Harper openly admitted the vaccine doesn't even prevent cervical cancer, stating, "[The vaccine] will not decrease cervical cancer rates at all."
This is astonishing news. The whole push behind the cervical cancer vaccines is based on the belief that they prevent cervical cancer. That belief, it turns out, is a myth.
Dr. Harper also warned that the cervical cancer vaccine was being "over-marketed" and that parents should be warned about the possible risk of severe side effects from the vaccine. She even concluded that the vaccine itself is more dangerous than the cervical cancer it claims to prevent!
Hysteria over genital warts?
In a New York Times article published last year, Dr. Harper spoke about the fear-based marketing of Gardasil by Merck:
"'Merck lobbied every opinion leader, women's group, medical society, politicians, and went directly to the people – it created a sense of panic that says you have to have this vaccine now..."
This behavior by drug companies – using fear tactics to promote a particular disease in order to sell the "treatment" – is called disease mongering. Dr. Harper is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She studied additional courses at Stanford and received her medical degree from the University of Kansas. She was a key researcher in both Gardasil and Cervarix vaccines, and she's one of the most experienced researchers in the world on HPV-related diseases. She's done work for both Merck and GlaxoSmithKline.
Dr. Harper's warnings about cervical cancer vaccines are especially relevant considering her expertise in the cost/benefit analysis of vaccines. Her conclusion is that cervical cancer vaccines aren't worth the risks, nor are they worth all the effort being put into hyping them to the public. "This may not be the best use of our resources at this time," she said in a Washington Post article.
So why do cervical cancer vaccines continue to be pushed by doctors and health authorities across the US, UK and other first-world nations? Because Big Pharma is the great corporate puppeteer that's pulling the strings of legislators. With enough money and lobbyists, you can always overcome scientific thinking with fear-based marketing and under-the-table deal-making. Science-based medicine has no place in a world where disease is big business.
There's a ridiculous amount of money to be made by pushing vaccines onto people who don't need them. If I had ten bucks for every teenage girl that's been injected with a cervical cancer vaccine, I'd be... well... GlaxoSmithKline.

More successes for ASC. Adult Stem Cells make new windpipe. In England, doctors took adult stem cells from the bone marrow of a woman's hip and created cartilage tissue to form a new windpipe. This was then used to replace a non-functional left main stem bronchus which joined the windpipe to the left lung. With this a non-functioning left lung, damaged by Tb, was brought back to full functioning since it used her own cells. There has been no organ rejection and she is now once again able to take care of her children at home.
Adult stem cells cure blindness. Researchers at the University of New South Wales have cured the blindness in three patients who were each blind in one eye. The procedure involves scraping less than a millimeter of tissue from the sides of the cornea of each patient's good eye. These cells were cultured with a contact lens. The patient then wore the lens. Within two week, the new stem cells had attached themselves to the patient's corneas, replenishing the damaged cells and restoring sight to those eyes.
Continued Progress on Pluripotent Stem Cells: In 2006, Dr. S. Yamanaka, showed that adding four "transcription factors" could transform adult cells into induced pluripotent stem cells which have the same basic characteristics and behavior as embryonic stem cells. Since that time, research has shown that just two or three of the transcription factors were sufficient to bring about the reprogramming. Now Dr. Scholer in Germany has converted neuro-stem cells using a single factor. This is a welcomed discovery as two of the other factors are oncogenes - genes that turn cells into cancer. However, even this one transcription factor can under certain conditions produce tumors. So research continues.

This month the National Catholic Bioethics Center published an article by Stephanie Gray in their publication "Ethics and Medics." It's about her debate with a philosophy Professor who made the point that just as we aren't forced to donate kidneys a woman shouldn't be forced to "donate" her uterus to the unborn.
A Kidney versus the Uterus
Earlier this year, at the University of Ottawa, Ms. Gray debated with a philosophy professor about abortion. Most of the people she debates with deny the personhood of the unborn on the basis of the unborn’s inability to function in certain ways. This professor, however, argued that even if the unborn are full members of the moral community, as adults are, abortion is permissible because pregnancy involves an extraordinary act on behalf of the mother. This was the analogy he used to make his case: "Suppose that you are in need of a kidney transplant in order to survive and that your mother is the only person in the world who is a physical match, meaning that she is the only person who can provide you with a kidney and hence preserve your life. Do you have a right to your mother’s kidney?"

A baby born prematurely was pronounced dead, but later was found to be alive.
ASUNCION – A baby boy born 16 weeks prematurely was declared dead by doctors at a hospital in Paraguay only to wake up in time for his funeral wake hours later.
Dr. Ernesto Weber, head of pediatric care at the state-run hospital in the capital of Asuncion, said the baby weighed just 17.6 ounces when he was born.
"Initially, the baby didn't move, he practically didn't have any respiratory reflexes, nor did we hear a heartbeat and, as a result, we declared a premature fetus of 24 weeks dead," Weber told Reuters Television.
The family was given a death certificate and a cardboard box with the baby's name scribbled on the outside which served as a makeshift coffin.
But when the family took him from the hospital to prepare him for his funeral, the unbelievable happened.
"I opened the box and took the baby out and he cried. I got scared and I said "the baby's crying" ... and then he started moving his arms, his legs and I got scared, we got very scared," said one member of the family, Liliana Alvarenga.

Being injected with a vaccine is a lot like being branded with an identification number tattoo in a prison camp. They are both administered via threats and intimidation (a mandatory vaccine push is now under way in the U.S.), they both involve government power over the freedoms of the people, and they both seek to control and corral the people into narrowly-defined realms of "acceptable" state-approved behavior.
When you allow yourself to be injected with a vaccine, you are in effect labeling yourself a medical slave of the Big Pharma-dominated system of western medicine. You are making a statement that you don't believe in your own body's immune system and you don't believe in health freedom. You are, in effect, acting like "a good little Nazi" with a hail to the Big Pharma fuehrer.

I stand firm on the belief that anyone who truly knew the details of the history of Big Pharma would never allow their bodies to be invaded with vaccines. There's an undeniable pattern of behavior in the pharmaceutical industry that simply must be acknowledged: It is a greed-driven corporate monstrosity that routinely commits fraud, kills children, engages in monopolistic marketing behavior, intimidates scientists and conducts pharmaceutical medical experiments on human patients (among other crimes).In fact, takers of the swine flu vaccine are unwittingly taking part in the largest global medical experiment ever conducted . Toronto, Canada (October 2, 2009) – Women who have had abortions have needs that are not being recognized or met, according to a conference today at the University of Toronto. “Based on our (25 years of) experience, our clients today are not struggling morally or ethically whether abortion is the issue, but they have a lot of questions on the impact of abortion on them personally. Women are struggling physically, emotionally, and psychologically and feel their concerns are not being answered”, according to Linda Baartse, from the Pregnancy Care Centre in Toronto, and one of the speakers at today’s conference.
The one day conference, Reproductive Decisions and Women’s Well-Being: Current Research and Practical Solutions, is being put on by the deVeber Institute for Bioethics and Social Research. It examines what information and support can be provided to a woman struggling with the decision to continue a pregnancy, and how to respond compassionately and effectively to women who have had an abortion.
Senior Researcher for the Institute, Dr. Deborah Zeni, remarks that complications from abortion must be expected. "If you look at the rates of immediate complications across the world in developed countries, they range anywhere from 5 per cent in Denmark... all the way up to 17 per cent in the United States. That means if you do 100,000 abortions a year, as we do in Canada, 10 per cent of those women will end up with immediate complications of their pregnancy. They end up needing to see a physician... to have their problems treated — problems that are directly attributable to the abortion."
The conference also features Angelina Steenstra, of Second Chance Ministries, speaking from her own experience of having had an abortion, and the women who she counsels. Through her work counselling women who have had abortions, she emphasizes, “Many women suffer in silence out of fear or shame. We don’t want them to suffer anymore. They are not alone. There is help.”
