"Seasoned with Salt" Julie Culeshaw
This is a good way to introduce Michael Coren - a man whose conversation is "seasoned with salt."

The dinner will be held at the Atlantic Ballroom of the Westin Hotel in Halifax.

Tickets are $100 per person;  gasp! you say, I won't pay or can't pay $100 for a dinner!  But it is not just a dinner that you are buying.

A fundraiser is an opportunity to make a donation to a worthy cause; and in return you are given a dinner and also given a scintillating talk by a very smart man.  So you are really doing three things with your money:  supporting a pro-life organization, getting fed and hearing an inspiring presentation.

Tickets $100 per person and can be obtained from Ellen Chesal at 861-1529 or Julie Culshaw at 455-3958.   Tables of Ten can be purchased for 850.00$. Your support will help Campaign Life Coalition to promote respect for life from conception to natural death. Proceeds will be used to promote education projects of Campaign Life NS. 1. Good Reason Not To Buy Hewlett Packard – January 1, 2010

As if you would think people would never take International Planned Parenthood Federation’s (IPPF) call for funds to pay for sexual and reproductive healthcare seriously, today the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation announced that they gave IPPF an “emergency grant” of $500,000.

Sara Seims, head of the Population Program at the Foundation proudly states:

We’re lucky to be able to support an organization that has deep experience in the field, so it can immediately make a difference and ease the suffering.

While C-FAM has no doubt that IPPF has plenty of experience in providing abortions. We would once again like to submit that there are much more effective and loving ways of easing peoples suffering. Read story here.

4. Rights Tribunal To Hear Case Of Gay Couple Denied Room At Bed And Breakfast – March 11, 2010

Susan Lazaruk, CanWest News Service   Published : Thursday, March 11, 2010

VANCOUVER – For the second time in five years, the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal will rule on a clash between gay rights and religious beliefs when it hears a complaint by two men denied accommodation in a Christian couple's bed and breakfast.

Shaun Eadie and Brian Thomas filed the complaint after they booked a room last June with one bed at the RiverBend Bed and Breakfast in Grand Forks with Susan Molnar, only to have husband Les phone back and ask if they were gay.

Les Molnar said it wasn't “going to work out.” Eadie said “wow” and hung up.

Neither party could be reached for comment.

Eadie and Thomas allege discrimination because of their sexual orientation, prohibited under Section 8 of the Human Rights Code.

The Evangelical Protestant couple acknowledged they denied the couple the room, telling the tribunal that to “allow a gay couple to share a bed in my Christian home would violate my Christian beliefs and cause me and my wife great distress” and would be “encouraging something which I believe to be wrong according to my religious beliefs and understanding of Scripture.”

They say they meant no “ill intent” and their “private dwelling house” should be exempt from Section 8 because of their moral beliefs and because their freedom of religion is protected under the Charter.

B.C.'s tribunal ruled on a similar case in 2005 when it found the Catholic group the Knights of Columbus was justified in its refusal to rent its hall to lesbians for a wedding reception. The women's planned court appeal was never filed.

The Molnars asked the tribunal to dismiss the latest complaint, but adjudicator Murray Geiger-Adams denied their request, saying each case needs to be heard on its own merits. He set a two-day hearing for May.

Geiger-Adams said the Molnars could be ordered to rent to gay couples in future and to compensate Eadie and Thomas for “injury to their dignity, feelings and self-respect.” Read story here. CanWest News Service

5. 40 Days News Brief – March 11, 2010

“We have wonderful news!” said Kathy in Columbia, Missouri. “The abortionist who did surgical abortions in Columbia at Planned Parenthood has resigned!

You could sense the excitement in Kathy's e-mail: “This is awesome news!”

Columbia is right in the middle of Missouri – and now more than a two-hour drive to the nearest available surgical abortions in St. Louis and Kansas City. “But we still have to pray for the conversion of the doctor who gives the RU-486 abortion pill on Thursdays,” said Kathy.

Mary Ann in Great Falls, Montana just sent her 40 Days for Life team with an all-capitals subject line: “All glory and honor belongs to God!”

“I could barely type it my hands were so shaky,” she said. Read story here.

To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won’t be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He’s good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he’s laid.

When he’s gone,
Do not relax,
It’s time to apply

11. C-268 Update – March 18, 2010

Dear friends,

I would like to provide you with an update on Bill C-268. This afternoon after 3:00pm EST, the Honourable Senator Yonah Martin will move Bill C-268 at Second Reading and give an opening speech.

The next step is for the Liberal Opposition Senators to appoint a spokesperson for C-268. Following their speech this, Bill C-268 will be sent to a Senate Committee before returning to the Senate for Third Reading  and final approval.

Again, I thank you for your continued support and efforts to stop human trafficking. We are getting closer to see this important legislation becoming law, closer to giving young victims confidence that their traffickers will be put away for at least 5 years. We are making progress and your voice is being heard!

Sincerely,

Joy Smith, MP
Kildonan – St. Paul. Read story here.

12. Lawmakers Need To Get Serious About Child Porn – March 12, 2010

The maximum sentence in Canada for distributing, making or selling child pornography is 10 years. The key word here is maximum. Seldom, if ever, does anyone convicted of this horrendous crime receive the maximum. As with many “maximums” the sentences are much less. Even for repeat offenders.  The sentencing system needs to catch up with the times when it comes to child pornography.  Read story here.
